Equipping the saints for the work of ministry ...
Basics of the Faith
To become a Christian involves a few simple steps; it doesn’t require a high IQ or even good character. All it takes is honesty with oneself, and the faith to see the truth.
This little study goes through the very basics of what one needs to see in order to become saved from sin and death. Not everyone will see it — only those whose eyes and heart God opens to his Word can see it. But it will mean the difference between eternal life and death on Judgment Day.
Once a person becomes a Christian, there will be a few issues to deal with, such as what to pray for, what Jesus wants of them, what exactly will please the Father in Heaven, and a few other important and useful matters. All those answers and more are to be found in the Old Testament — which the Apostle Paul tells us is the textbook for our Christian faith.

When God calls his people home, he expects to see progress — a transformation from a broken creature of this world into a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven.
If we’re not making progress on the map — moving steadily from this world to the next — then something is wrong. The Lord has reason to believe that our claim to be a Christian is either ignorance or a lie.
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? – unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Where other surveys focus on the details, Mystery Revealed backs up and looks at the bigger picture of the Bible. God has one plan that hits directly at the root problem of humanity. So the entire Bible becomes a blueprint for God's solution to our problem.
At the very beginning of the book, we find the Creator setting the stage for the New Creation, then laying down the terms of the Gospel to Abraham who knew about the great Heir to come, and Moses learning God's eternal standard of righteousness, and David works out his 5-point plan for the Kingdom to serve as the master-plan in the work of the Son of David ... these and many more themes are worked out, expanded and fulfilled throughout the Old and New Testaments.

This book covers the basic truths of Christianity that every Christian ought to know!
Hebrews 5 tells us that many believers don't know the simplest doctrines of their faith -- though they've heard the truth from the pulpit and in the classroom many times.
Following the list in Hebrews, Fundamentals carefully examines each basic truth that God expects all of his children to know -- and how each one applies to our faith and daily living.

The Bible is very clear about who may appear before God: only the righteous. And the full definition of who is righteous is contained in the Law of Moses, which Israel was expected to keep perfectly.
But with the coming of Christ, Christians understand that we now appear before God in the righteousness of the Son.
But has the Law been “set aside”? What are Christians to do with the Law of God — when Paul has told us “the Law is good”, and yet he also said “I have died to the Law!”
The answer is found in the Spirit of God, who makes us righteous according to the Law.

The Old Testament is critical for the Christian’s faith.
Paul (2 Timothy 3:15) sees the Old Testament as a textbook on Christ. Peter and John used the Old Testament as their text when preaching the Gospel of Christ (Acts 2-3). John in his book of Revelation shows us the Christian’s eternal hope of Heaven as a fulfillment of Old Testament themes (Revelation 21-22). Jesus used the Old Testament to explain his ministry to his disciples after his Resurrection (Luke 24:25-27). Paul “proved from the Scriptures” that Jesus is the Messiah (Acts 17:2-3). Everywhere we turn, we see Christ and the Apostles using it as a source of data to explain the Gospel of Christ.
Christ is working on the same House introduced to us by the Old Testament. What was first the Jewish hope has now become the hope of all of us – living with God in his House.

Modern churches almost all have something in common: they teach the same shallow Gospel that our culture has dictated. It has little resemblance to the Apostles’ Gospel.
In our modern times we have closed the Old Testament, reduced the New Testament down to a few emotional concepts that appeal to demanding consumers, and have come up with a new modern Mission statement that has nothing to do with the work of Christ’s Kingdom.
Since this juggernaut can’t be changed, the only hope is that there are a few people who are weary of the superficial message of today’s churches and turn to their Bibles — to sit at the feet of the Apostles and Prophets.

The Mission: to travel through this world to the next world.
But the way to God’s world will not be obvious at all. We cannot follow our Christian faith simply in the way we think it should happen.
Our only hope is to follow Christ as he leads us to his Father, to endure the hardships, and to trust Christ for our survival through the dark Providences along the way — even when we can’t understand the Way that he takes.

The Gospel of Christ is the heart of the Church's message to the world. But the modern form of the Gospel is missing what the Apostles taught -- which means that we are not teaching what was passed on to us about Jesus.
The Apostles had a profound grasp of the truths of the Old Testament, and that gave them the insights they needed to preach the "whole counsel of God" about Christ. Jesus is literally the fulfillment of the Old Testament Kingdom; to believe in Jesus is to understand and believe in the Heir of the Covenant, and the Son of David.

God has only one Son whom he loves without measure.
Man was first made “in the image of God” — to be God’s son on earth, with the closest bond of relationship with his Father in Heaven. But he renounced his Father, turned away from his Inheritance, and chose misery, darkness and death as a result.
But in a stunning turn of events, the Father has called back his mortal enemy, the criminal of the universe, the rebel most undeserving of God’s mercy — to live with him once again, this time in the House of God in Heaven.
But there is one condition: man must empty himself completely and be filled with the Spirit of the Son.

Modern scholars and pastors almost all teach that Abraham sinned against God and against his wife Sarah when he lacked faith and “played the coward”.
But nobody in the Bible — neither the Prophets nor Jesus nor the Apostles — see it that way. They all tell us that Abraham “learned faith” in his walk with God. According to them, Abraham was the supreme example of faith for all of us. We’ve been applying our arbitrary ethics and shifting standards to the Patriarch’s life, and coming to the opposite conclusion from God’s declaration about Abraham.
The reason we have to honor the Patriarch is that God has pronounced a curse against anyone who dishonors his friend Abraham — the Prophet of God.
”Those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.” (Galatians 3:9)

The Gospel has been changed in modern times.
Our preachers and teachers in the Church are pretty much unanimous on what the Gospel is, and they almost all teach it the same way. What’s alarming is that the modern way of preaching the Gospel doesn’t match up with the way the Apostles preached it.
The Good News is that “The LORD has returned to Zion!” Our hope is Jesus at the right hand of the Throne of God.

In an age when science and materialism has gotten such a death-grip on the public mentality, this question is more relevant than ever!
In his wisdom God has done two things: first, he has put proofs of his existence out beyond the reach of scientific proof. In order to believe in God, you need faith alone — because only faith can truly fathom the true nature of who God is.
Second, God has left us incontrovertible testimony of his reality. There is simply no way we can deny the person and works of God without falling back into a foolish rebellion against plain facts.
But we have to be willing to look at what God is showing us — the time has come to turn a deaf ear to the trivial objections of unbelievers and listen to God’s own testimony of himself.

John is the simplest Gospel in the New Testament – but it’s also the deepest Gospel. It uses easy words, words that even children can understand. Nothing in this Gospel is going to be over our heads.
On the other hand the ideas that the Apostle teaches us in this book are some of the most profound truths in the Bible. Here is the Word of God through whom the world was created, the Light that reveals not only this world but the world of God. The Light shows us the true God, our own hearts, the dark world we live in, the war between God and the forces of darkness, and — most importantly — the Way to eternal life.
These sermons explore the first five verses of the Gospel of John and the revelation of God in Jesus Christ.

Hell — the very thought terrifies the human conscience! In the Bible, God opens a window for us into the ultimate doom of the wicked. What is Hell really like? Who will end up going to Hell? Is Hell necessary? And most important of all, is there a way of escaping the dreaded realm of eternal punishment where the “worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”?
”Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!”

There have been multitudes of authors who have focused primarily on the “nice” passages in the Gospels, the ones that show us a gentle Shepherd who loves everyone.
The truth, however, is more sobering. In the Gospel of Matthew, for example, about 16.4% of the words that Jesus himself spoke (in other words, the “red letter” verses) make up what I call the “severity passages. That means one out of every six sentences that Jesus spoke was a severe warning that people needed to stop assuming that all was well with their souls.
It was very likely that all was not well, and Christ’s message was urgent that they get right with their Maker before it was too late.

Christians assume that they understand the New Testament message -- it's simply the story of Christ!
But Christ is actually the fulfillment of sweeping Old Testament themes. He picked up, in the Gospels, right where the Prophets left off and put the finishing touches to a complex system that started with Creation and Abraham.
The Apostles were given special insight into the true nature of Christ and his work. They were his "interpreters," bringing out the truth about Christ that the Church needs to know about him.
Jesus and the New Testament will give you a new appreciation for the special work that Christ has come to do for us.

If the Lord has called you into his service, you have many things to work on and turn into spiritual profit if you are going to please the Master. None of us wants to be called a “worthless servant” on Judgment Day (Matthew 25:30) -- which means that we must find out now what he expects of us and get busy doing it.
In this study we will look at typical, low-level Christianity and why it is not good enough for a servant of the Lord. Then after looking at the wide range of spiritual duties that the Lord has given us, we will find the best way to get started doing them.

Did you know that God has ways of doing things? Did you also know that your salvation depends on learning what those ways are?
In the book of Hebrews God tells us that the Israelites weren’t allowed into the Promised Land because "they did not know my ways." And it tells us that we too will miss the Promised Land if we don’t learn the ways of the Lord.
In this book we will find out what some of those ways are and just how important they are to our walk of faith. We will learn to work with God instead of against him. His ways lead to life.

The works of the Lord surround us. It would take far longer than our short lifetimes to study all of them in depth. He has shown us his vast power and his profound wisdom in what he has done. His works truly teach us what kind of a God we have.
The Bible explains the works of the Lord to us. Here we will learn what God has done not only in the physical Creation but what he is doing to set up a spiritual world that will replace the world we live in now.
The works of the Lord will only be of use to us if we learn them and remember them in our time of need. That's why the Bible stresses that we "remember the works of the Lord" when we need this God to do the same things for us that he did in the past for his saints.

If you’re feeling comfortable in life, if you’re living peacefully and contented in a world that is in such deep spiritual darkness, in a culture that is breaking all of God’s laws with gay abandon, and none of this mounting tension between God and our rebellious world is causing you any alarm – then you are in great danger.
Jesus came with an urgent message: It’s time to get out of this world. He wants to take us away from sin and death and into the presence of his Father. God has a new world waiting for his children, a special world where man and God will live together, a world where the Father will reveal himself fully to his Son and his Son will experience the full inheritance of the Father.
There is life only in the Son. iI’s time to go to him — now.

Jesus Christ formed his Church to accomplish a Mission on earth. Whatever model we use to characterize the Church – a profitable business, a school, a military force, a spiritual hospital, or a political organization – Christ expects us to be working on this Mission and making progress toward the goal he has called us to.
Unfortunately the modern Church seems to have lost all sense of even the idea of God’s Mission.
In Part One we will look at the current state of affairs in our churches, then we will survey the entire Bible for clear statements of the Mission. From the very beginning it’s always been the same clear, simple and urgent goal for God’s people.
